There are many schools offering MBA (Master of Business Administration) programs in the Philadelphia area. The type of programs offered vary and range from part-time to full-time formats. Certain schools offer an online option, and some of these are blended with classroom attendance.

Philadelphia MBA Study Options

Full-Time

Full-time MBA programs usually require class attendance 3-4 days per week, plus project time. They can commonly be completed in a 20- to 24-month time frame.

Part-Time

Part-time MBA programs often involve evening class attendance and some Saturdays. They commonly take about 36 months to complete. These programs may combine in-class and online facets.

Executive

Meant for working professionals and those with significant job experience in the business world, the executive programs offer intensive sessions that are usually held on weekends, such as one weekend per month. These programs may involve a residency option or requirement. Program duration may be around 20 months.

Distance Learning

Online MBA programs tend to offer the most flexibility. Some are hybrid programs that are blended with on-campus requirements. These can often be completed in 14 months or more.

General MBA Admission Requirements

An undergraduate degree is normally a prerequisite for students entering an MBA program. The undergraduate degree does not usually have to be in a business-related topic. Some schools also require that MBA applicants take the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) as part of the admission requirements. Other common application requirements include official transcripts, letters of recommendation, essays and resumes; an interview may also be necessary. Depending on the specific program, applicants might be required to have a certain number of years of experience working in a related position.

Philadelphia Schools Offering MBA Programs

University of Pennsylvania

At the University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton full-time MBA program takes about 20 months to complete, and students can choose from 19 specializations that include topics like finance, marketing and management. The program also offers a wide choice of electives. An executive MBA program contains these same elements but is offered in a part-time format and takes about 24 months to complete. That program is ranked in the top ten in the US for 2019 according to Forbes.

Temple University

Temple was founded in 1888, and the MBA program has been in existence since 1943. Today the Fox School of Business program offers students a choice of full-time, part-time, executive or distance learning options. These programs require between 16 months and two years of study, depending on the option chosen. Students might pick from various areas of specialization.

Drexel University

Drexel University was established in 1891. The LeBow College MBA program offers students a choice of full-time, part-time, executive or distance learning. The full-time program typically takes 18 months. Students can select one of six areas of specialization. The online program takes around two years to complete and features on-campus and international residencies.

LaSalle University

LaSalle was founded in 1863, and the School of Business offers an MBA program that students can take full time or online. There's also a part-time program offering a combination of online and classroom courses. An executive program is an option as well. Several of these programs may be completed in as little as 12 months, depending on students' undergraduate background. Students in the full-time and part-time programs may choose one of six areas of specialization to meet their educational goals.

Jefferson University

Thomas Jefferson University was established in 1969 and became Jefferson University when it merged with Philadelphia University in 2017. Its Kanbar College School of Business offers full-time and part-time MBA programs with nine concentration options. Full-time students can enroll in the 12-month program, while the flexible part-time program allows students to complete the MBA in 24 months or longer. The online MBA program requires 18 to 24 months of study and is a more general business option.

Philadelphia universities offer a good selection of MBA programs that may commonly be completed in 12-36 months. Different study options are available to meet students' needs, including full-time, part-time, online and executive programs.
