West Virginia University in Morgantown provides a traditional, on-campus MBA program as well as a hybrid version. The on-campus MBA is a full-time, 12-month program that includes a 10-day international trip for hands-on learning and offers the option of earning one of several dual degrees. The hybrid program can be completed in two years, requires 48 credits and offers areas of emphasis in forensic accounting and fraud examination, integrated marketing communications and energy finance. In addition to online courses, the program includes four face-to-face residencies and offers the possibility to earn dual degrees.
University of Charleston
The University of Charleston offers an MBA program that can be completed in 16 months. Students at this Charleston-based school can choose from an online format with synchronous class meetings or a hybrid format that includes evening courses and online work. The programs include a 10-day international practicum experience in countries like Brazil, China or Ireland for hands-on learning. The programs also follow a cohort model and allow for plenty of teamwork on projects and assignments throughout the 8-module program.
Shepherd University in Shepherdstown has a 4+1 MBA program that allows students to earn their bachelor's degree and MBA in five years as well as a traditional MBA program that can be taken in a full- or part-time format. The full-time program can be completed in 18 months, and students can choose from concentrations in sport management, public management or health administration. Students can also earn certificates in these areas and must complete 27 core credits. Those in the program must also complete a capstone experience that can be an applied research project or internship.
West Virginia Wesleyan College
West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon offers a 5-year MBA for undergraduate students and a traditional MBA program for those who have already earned a bachelor's degree. The traditional MBA can be taken full- or part-time and can be completed in two to three years, depending on which format the student chooses. The program totals 36 credits and offers concentrations in areas such as labor and law, nonprofit management, health care administration and human resource management. Students conclude the program with a capstone course in business strategy that includes presentations, readings, reports and a final project where students develop a strategic plan for a real organization.
Fairmont State University
Fairmont State University has an MBA program with a fast-track option that allows students to complete the program in 15 months. Students at this Fairmont-based school may also choose to complete the program in 27 months, but those in either format can pursue a concentration in human resources management or project management. The program offers a range of hands-on learning experiences, including an optional practicum experience, an optional global experience and leadership and personal development workshops. Students in the project management concentration may also elect to take a capstone course that prepares them for national certifications in project management.
Common Entrance Requirements
Students in West Virginia who intend to apply to an MBA program must have at least a bachelor's degree and generally need to take the GMAT or GRE. Some of these programs may require a minimum GPA between a 2.75 and 3.0 and/or prerequisite coursework in areas such as accounting, economics, finance, business law and marketing.
