Description of Methodist Colleges in Tennessee

Students wanting to attend a Methodist college in Tennessee may wish to consider factors like size, undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs available and spiritual or extracurricular opportunities. Here we explore some of these characteristics for each of the schools.

Lane College

Lane College is a unique, undergraduate, Historically Black College that had 1,420 students in 2017, according to the NCES. Students can choose from several different majors, including mass communication, physical education, religion, sociology, biology, French and computer science. The college encourages spiritual growth in its students by requiring attendance for at least 10 chapel services each semester and offering a variety of religious activities, such as Religious Emphasis Week and worship events. Students on campus can also participate in NCAA Division II athletics, marching band, honor societies, choir, Foreign Language Club, Chess Club and other organizations.

Hiwassee College

Hiwassee College is another undergraduate institution, and it offers degree programs in subjects like equine science, equine management and training, Christian leadership, biology, business and dental hygiene. Students can further develop and/or practice their faith through various religious and service groups on campus, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Christian Student Movement, HC Helping Hands and the school's Volunteer Engagement program. Students can also participate in a variety of other activities on campus, such as intramurals, International Student Association, Theatre, Future Farmers of America (FFA), HC Relay for Life and Hiking. As of 2017, the NCES reported that the college had around 300 students.

Martin Methodist College

Students at Martin Methodist College can invest in their spiritual lives through chapel and worship services, summer ministry opportunities and spiritual organizations on campus, like FCA and Student Christian Association (SCA). Students may also pursue personal interests by joining other organizations on campus, such as Drama Club, Harry Potter Alliance, Grind Your Gear Bike Club, Student Nursing Association and honor societies. According to the NCES, the college had close to 980 undergraduate students in 2017. The school offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and several undergraduate programs in fields including nursing, education, music, history, chemistry and mathematics.

Tennessee Wesleyan University

The NCES reported that Tennessee Wesleyan University had close to 940 undergraduate students in 2017. The school provides students with an MBA or Master of Occupational Therapy, as well as a variety of undergraduate degree programs to choose from in areas like nursing, history, engineering science, communication studies, education and religion and philosophy. Spiritual life on campus consists of weekly chapel services, mission opportunities, spiritual lecture series and spiritual organizations, including FCA and Wesleyan Christian Fellowship. The university also provides students with diverse student life activities through student groups like Natural Science Club, International Club, Greek life, honor societies, Habitat for Humanity and Art Club.
