5 Jobs in the Middle East that Veterans Should Consider

Veterans are ideally suited for many jobs in the Middle East. Many American companies, such as Halliburton and Boeing have operations in the Middle East which require superior technical skills as well as high security clearances. Both of these aspects make veterans particularly suitable for these positions.

Information Security Analysts

Veterans who have experience working with computers and networks may find their skills in high demand as information security analysts. Given that much of the data used in military operations is digital and regarded as sensitive, security procedures are often front and center. Veterans' experience in this environment may allow them to stand out from other candidates.

Information security analysts are the cyber warriors of information technology. They analyze computer systems for vulnerabilities and weak points. They conduct a variety of ongoing tests to identify potential threats and take effective preventative action when necessary. This is a role which is expanding rapidly in the civilian world, both within the United States and overseas. A bachelor's degree is required.

Aerospace Engineer

Due to the ongoing upheaval in the Middle East, there is a lot of advanced weaponry in the region. Aerospace engineers are required to keep these systems operational. Veterans with first-hand experience working with these aerial machines are in high demand.

Aerospace engineers are responsible for the design, building, and testing of: rockets, planes, helicopters, missiles, satellites, and aerial drones. In the Middle East, engineers test, maintain, and operate these systems. A similar title often used in the Middle East is Senior Field Engineer. For this position actual experience with a specific weapon system may be substituted for a degree in some situations.

Political Scientist

The ideal position for a political scientist in the Middle East would be International Strategist. Veterans with diplomatic or geographic research experience, as well as Arabic language skills, would be ideally suited to this position.

In the Middle East, political scientists are responsible for researching and reporting on political and cultural situations. Their input is crucial and can mean the difference between the success or failure of missions and enterprises. In a volatile political dynamic, the information provided by an international strategist is invaluable. This position requires a master's degree.

Mechanical Engineer

Machines used in war and reconstruction require constant servicing and upgrades. Veterans who have experience in this field, particularly hands-on experience, will be highly valued.

Mechanical engineers design and build the machines upon which the modern world runs, including vehicles. They also analyze malfunctioning equipment and recommend solutions to fix it based on their diagnosis of the problem. In the Middle East those with experience working with vehicles may want to explore the position of Vehicle Mechanic Consultant Sr. Field Engineer. A bachelor's degree is required for the top positions, but specialized military training with particular vehicles is also valuable and may be regarded as a suitable substitute.

Electrical and Electronic Engineers

Electrical and communications systems are being rebuilt and developed throughout the Middle East. Veterans who combine technical expertise and the ability to live and work in the local conditions are sure to find a surplus of opportunities.

Electrical systems and communications are the backbone of modern society. Electrical and electronic engineers are the people who design, plan, build, and maintain those systems. There are opportunities in a number of fields, from building out the electrical grid to working on communications and sensing systems. A bachelor's degree is desirable, although experience on specific systems can give veterans an edge over non-military college graduates.
