Georgia Military-Friendly Schools
Georgia has several different military-friendly schools that range in size and military program offerings. These schools offer support towards military service members, veterans, and their families to assist with their college experience. In addition, most of these schools offer online programs or flexibility in coursework.
Albany State University
Albany State University offers a military student organization that provides support to veterans, military service men and women, and their families during their college experience. The university also has a Military Resource Center that provides guidance and information to create a successful learning experience for military service members and their families. Albany State University also offers an ROTC program for those interested in entering the military. This university is on the smaller side, with about 3,000 students enrolled. There are numerous academic programs that may interest military service members and veterans, including computer science, nursing, criminal justice, and government.
Armstrong State University
Armstrong State University offers a military resource center where service members can learn more about the benefits offered by the school, as well as a veteran's service office and a Green Zone Program that provides support to military members in their transition to college life and the workforce. In addition to the many programs to assist military students, Armstrong State University also offers fully online degree programs for an Associate of Arts and Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice. The city of Savannah, where this university is located, is a mid-sized city, and the school houses about 7,000 students. Armstrong State University has programs ranging from certificate and associate's degree programs to doctoral programs.
Georgia State University
Georgia State University has several campuses with military outreach centers that provide support and services to assist with the needs of military service members attending college. This campus also provides a Veterans Upward Bound program that helps military service members and veterans gain skills needs to be successful in their college experience. Georgia State University recognizes that military members have a limited amount of time to complete their education, so they are able to have priority registration and create their own schedules. Georgia State University also offers many programs online. This university has over 32,000 students and is located in Atlanta, Georgia, which is a large city.
College of Coastal Georgia
The College of Coastal Georgia offers a VALOR program that helps military students ease into the college experience and meet with others in similar situations. College of Coastal Georgia also has work study programs available to military students, where they will be helping in the VA office. At this college, military students can complete courses during the day, night, or online. Among the online programs, several are available completely online, including nursing, psychology, and workforce management and leadership. Other programs also offer coursework that can be completed online, though some in-person work is also required. The College of Coastal Georgia is located in a small city and has an all-undergraduate student population of around 3,500 students.
Kennesaw State University
Kennesaw State University (KSU) has a Student Veterans Club where military members can be supported in their educational experience. The university also offers an ROTC club that assists with leadership training. KSU has a career service center that helps students with creating a resume, practicing for interviews, and choosing a career, which can benefit military service members and veterans. The university has over 70 degree programs that can be completed fully online, along with hundreds of other courses that can be completed online. KSU is a large school that has about 35,000 students enrolled.
