Military-Friendly Schools in Pennsylvania

For veterans and military students searching for a welcoming college or university, one that offers benefits and perks to veterans, the following schools have much to offer. These schools have a range of services, including military science and training, services for veterans, or even scholarships.

Valley Forge Military College

This school is the only college in the northeast with early commissioning for ROTC programs. Participants can earn Second Lieutenant U.S. Army Reserves or Coast Guard as sophomores. This school also offers college credits for military placement and a career placement program. In addition, there are a number of scholarships available for veterans and military students in several categories, including military band and other specialized areas.

Valley Forge Military College is a two year school that offers associate's degrees. There are six programs of study, which include liberal arts, security, and health.

University of Pittsburgh

This school offers many services and opportunities to veterans and military students. There are scholarships for veterans, as well as programs like the Katz Graduate School of Business, which is veteran friendly. The Office of Veteran Services works with 500 registered veterans, and is the home of PITT Veterans, the campus Student Veterans Organization. The school also offers veterans and military students course scheduling preference and waives the admissions application fee. Veterans are also invited to employment networking events.

University of Pittsburgh hosts 16 schools, on 5 campuses, that offer 400 certificates and degrees. There are nearly 29,000 students enrolled at the Pittsburgh campus.

University of Pennsylvania

Military students will find a Naval ROTC program at this campus. Marine veterans will be able to participate in the Leadership Scholar program, which is designed to help Marines achieve success in higher education after they leave active duty service. There are a number of programs on campus for service members, including a Career Services program for vets, as well as a Service Members and Veterans Legal Assistance Project. Service members, veterans, and their families will also find behavioral health services at the Steve A. Cohen Military Family Clinic.

University of Pennsylvania provides a full slate of academic programs as expected at a large university. The school offers programs from the associate's degree level to the doctorate level.

Mercyhurst University

Mercyhurst offers an Army ROTC Military Science Program, which is available to men or women. It offers training and experience in leadership, self-discipline, integrity, confidence, and responsibility. The school also has a Veterans Services Office, and a Veterans Student Resource Center. Priority registration is offered to veterans.

This university is a four-year institution that offers bachelor's degrees and some graduate programs. There are nearly 3,000 students, the majority of which are undergraduates.

La Roche College

This college provides veterans with a dedicated Veterans' Services Official and has a Student Veterans Organization. College credit is offered for military training.

La Roche College is a Catholic school with a mission to provide service to others. Its academic programs offer degrees in management, teaching, nursing, health sciences, and the humanities. The school enrolls about 1,500 students.
