View High School

View High School is a private online high school program available to students all across the country, including North Carolina. Students who enroll at View High School can complete their high school experience online as the school offers core courses for students to take from their freshman through their senior year, as well as a number of elective courses in the arts, physical education, and world languages. The courses are often presented through videos and students are able to contact their teachers during their regularly scheduled office hours.

North Carolina Connections Academy

North Carolina Connections Academy is an online public school in North Carolina. This school offers a wide variety of both core curriculum courses and elective courses. The academy also offers many career and technical education courses that provide students with practical skills as well as exposure to career options. Some of these include marketing, principles of business, occupational preparation, and business management. Students can also participate in a number of different extracurricular activities like art club, debate club, poetry club, and the student newspaper.

North Carolina Virtual Academy

Another online public school option available to students in North Carolina is North Carolina Virtual Academy. This school has designed its curriculum to fit the needs and academic levels of many different students. They offer all of their core subject courses in three different levels: comprehensive, honors, and Advanced Placement. Students also have the option of enrolling in college-level courses at various community colleges and universities while enrolled in the high school program so they can earn simultaneous credit.

Forest Trail Academy

Forest Trail Academy is a private school option available to students across the country, including North Carolina. Students who enroll at this school can select from a wide variety of courses, including many elective classes and Advanced Placement options. Forest Trail Academy also may appeal to students who need to make up previously failed courses through their credit recovery courses, as well as to students who would like to accelerate their learning process through summer school classes.

North Carolina Virtual Public School

North Carolina Virtual Public School is an online public school available to students across North Carolina. This school offers summer school programs, Advanced Placement options, credit recovery opportunities, and many elective courses, including a wide variety of foreign language courses. Students who enroll at North Carolina Virtual Public School can also benefit from the school's culture cafés, which are hour-long lectures on different topics like foreign languages, technology, education, and math.

Regulations for Online High Schools in North Carolina

Students who are attending public online high schools in North Carolina still have to fulfill the graduation requirements as set by the state. North Carolina requires students to complete four credits of English, four credits of math, three credits of science, four credits of social studies, one credit of health and physical education, and six different elective credits. Students who enroll in private schools will likely want to check with the university they want to attend to make sure they fulfill the required prerequisites.
