Florida State University

Florida State University offers an online master's in social work program. This program is 61 credit hours and expected to take students three years to complete. This program is optimized for working professionals with flexible part-time scheduling and support. Florida State University's program is geared toward qualifying students for social work licensure and includes two fieldwork placements. Students take two courses at a time in 16 week semesters (summer semesters are a few weeks shorter). This program does require two weekends to be spent on campus during the course of the program during usually the second or third semester for in-person skill-building sessions.

University of Central Florida

The University of Central Florida's College of Health Professions and Sciences offers a CSWE accredited online master in social work. This program is designed for students who did not major in social work during their undergraduate educations, or if they did, that their bachelor's in social work was obtained at least five years ago. This program aims to prepare successful graduates for careers including clinical practitioner, case manager, child welfare caseworker, counselor, and many more. This program is 62 hours and includes options for specialization and hands-on experience through field placements.

Florida Gulf Coast University

Florida Gulf Coast University's Department of Social Work offers an MSW program with many online course options. This program focuses on research and practice and how the two concepts can inform each other. Online courses offered include issues in aging, social policy analysis, loss and bereavement, trauma and informed care, and many more offered each semester. For full-time students, this degree program is a two-year program, and for part-time students, this is a four-year program. This MSW program includes practical field education as an essential component to complement research and typical coursework.

MSW Admission Requirements

MSW programs typically require students to have a 3.0 GPA although some of them allow for addendums to the application as a chance for students with lower GPAs to explain their academic performances. Entrance into these schools is contingent on presenting official and acceptable transcripts. It is also common for schools to require that a certain portion of undergraduate coursework be in related subject areas and with acceptable academic performance. These schools typically require three letters of recommendation for entrance into these programs. There are also specific application fees and requirements for each of these schools.
