Alabama Schools with Online MBA Programs

The University of Alabama at Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham offers a fully online MBA program that totals 36 credit hours. Students can follow a 1- or 2-year plan of study and may choose from concentration areas in health services, finance, marketing or management information systems, which increase the program to 39 credit hours. Students in the program also have the option to pursue dual degree programs that pair the MBA with degrees like a Master of Public Health (MPH), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA).

Faulkner University

Montgomery's Faulkner University is a Christian institution that has an online Executive MBA program. The program includes 10 courses and can be completed in 1 year. Students conclude the 30-credit program with a comprehensive exam. Coursework for the program includes topics in strategic management, organizational behavior, quantitative analysis and managerial finance and economics.

The University of North Alabama

The University of North Alabama in Florence provides a traditional MBA and an Executive MBA program online. Each program totals 34 credits, and the traditional MBA offers 9 different concentration areas, including global business, project management, accounting and sales and new business development. If taken full-time, students can complete the MBA program in 12 to 18 months or 24 to 30 months part-time. The school also offers an online graduate certificate program specifically in project management that can be taken before or after the MBA program.

The University of West Alabama

Livingston's University of West Alabama has an online MBA program that totals 33 credits. Students can complete the program in about 1 year and can choose from concentrations in areas like sports management, marketing, computer information systems and entrepreneurship and innovation. Courses are 8 weeks long, and students must complete an orientation and assessment prior to their first semester. Students in the program take core courses in topics such as ethics, emerging technologies, operations management and business policy.

Samford University

Samford University, also in Birmingham, offers an online MBA and a hybrid MBA program. Depending on a student's educational background, the basic program requires 36 to 45 credit hours to complete. Courses are offered online and in the evenings for students in the hybrid format. Students may choose to take additional electives to complete a concentration in finance, entrepreneurship or marketing, and the school also offers a range of joint degree programs, such as an MBA and Juris Doctor (JD), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Master of Accountancy (MAcc).

Common Entrance Requirements

Online MBA programs in Alabama typically require applicants to have at least a bachelor's degree. Students may need to meet minimum GPA scores and/or specific GMAT test scores. Some programs may accept the GRE in place of the GMAT, and some programs may also require a specific number of years of professional work experience, usually ranging from 3 to 5 years. Students may also be required to have prior coursework in areas like pre-calculus, statistics, accounting, economics or management.
