Overview of Online MBA Programs in California

California State University - Long Beach

California State University offers an online MBA program that may be of interest to students. At the beginning of this program, students must attend a three-day orientation in Long Beach, during which time students will meet their professors and peers and learn important information about the program. Over the next two years, including a summer term, students will complete all of the required coursework online. Some topics that are covered in the curriculum include managerial accounting, business finance, marketing policies, and human resources management. The only other in-person requirement of this program occurs at the end of the program when all enrolled students will travel to an international destination to study various aspects of global business.

University of Redlands

The University of Redlands offers an online MBA program that students can complete in around two years, though some students may be able to have some business classes waived and finish sooner. Generally, students will take courses in eight-week terms. Each course is classified as either a foundational business knowledge course, general business knowledge course, concentration course, or capstone course. Students in the program must select from one of four possible concentrations to further individualize their degree according to their interests. These options are location analytics, finance, marketing, and general business.

California Southern University

Another option for students is the online MBA program at California Southern University. In this program, students are required to complete a total of 36 credit hours, 21 of which come from the required core courses which cover topics in data analysis, managerial accounting and ethics. Students then can select elective courses to complete the program requirements, which are organized by concentrations. There are seven possible concentrations that students can choose, including project management, human resource management, and strategic leadership.

University of Southern California

The University of Southern California also offers an online MBA option for students. Outside of a week long on-campus residency, this program can be completed remotely. Students in this program can benefit from attending live courses, as some weekly sessions are conducted via webcam allowing for students to interact with each other and their professors on a regular basis. In terms of curriculum, students must fulfill six required courses. They can then choose to enroll in online elective courses if they wish to gain further knowledge in a specific area, like project management.

Fresno State University

As for the online classes, students are required to complete 18 credits of core curriculum, 12 credits of elective courses, and six credits of a culminating experience via a project or thesis. Students who lack an academic business background may have to take some foundational level courses before beginning the core curriculum. Though not required, students in this program can also participate in a summer study-abroad experience to gain international business skills and perspective.

Admissions Standards for Online MBA Programs in California

When applying to an online MBA program, students will need to provide admissions committees with a variety of information about themselves as applicants. This process generally requires the submission of a completed application form, letters of recommendation, past academic transcripts, a personal statement, and a resume or CV.
