Overview of Online MBA Programs in Texas

University of Texas Dallas

Students may be interested in enrolling in the online Professional MBA program offered by the University of Texas Dallas. This program is highly flexible and can be completed entirely online in as little as 16 months, though students who would like to complete the coursework at a slower pace can take up to 72 months to finish the program. All students are required to complete 53 credit hours which are split between 30 hours of core courses and 23 hours of elective coursework. If students want to, they have the option of pursuing a concentration through their elective course selection. Concentration options include accounting, healthcare management, international management, and supply chain management, among others.

Texas A&M University Corpus Christi

The online MBA program at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is another option for students seeking online MBA programs in Texas. Students in this 30-credit program can complete the course requirements in as few as 12 months if they have previously achieved an undergraduate degree in business administration. Students who lack this background will be required to take four additional courses in order to make up for any gaps in knowledge, which will extend the time it takes them to complete the degree. It is possible for students to pursue concentrations in finance, accounting, or healthcare administration through the online MBA program.

Baylor University

Baylor University also offers an online MBA program that can be completed in either 12 or 16 months, depending on whether or not students have a bachelor's degree in business: having majored in business enables them to skip the business foundations coursework and complete the degree in a shorter amount of time. In the 12-month track, students will complete 48 credit hours of coursework by completing two courses each term. The 16-month track follows the same format, but students will complete 60 credit hours. The core program curriculum covers topics like ethical leadership, strategic communication, negotiations, and applied finance.

West Texas A&M University

Another option for students is the online MBA degree offered by West Texas A&M University. In this program, students will either complete 31 or 46 hours of core coursework, depending on their academic background. Students who have not previously studied business administration will be required to take up to nine hours of foundation courses. All students in the program will also complete additional elective coursework according to the emphasis area they select. Options include marketing, computer information systems, and management, among others. Students typically can complete this program in a two-year timeframe, though some may be able to complete at more quickly as arranged with the program faculty.

University of North Texas

The University of North Texas offers an online MBA program to students that allows for further specialization in the areas of marketing analytics, strategic management, marketing, supply chain management or analytics, or organizational behavior and human resource (HR) management. Regardless of the concentration area that students select, all enrolled students must complete 18 credits of course curriculum before then completing the 15 hours of concentration-specific coursework and an additional three-hour elective course. This program can be completed in as few as 14 months, though it is also possible for students to take courses at a slower pace according to the demands of their schedule.

General Admission Standards for Online MBA Programs in Texas

Online MBA programs will generally accept applications from a wide variety of students, regardless of their academic background. However, as mentioned above, some programs may require students who do not have a background in business to take additional coursework while enrolled in the MBA program in order to be prepared for the core curriculum. When applying to these programs, students will need to submit a number of documents and materials in order to be considered. These commonly include past academic transcripts, proof of degree, letters of recommendation, a professional CV or resume, statement of purpose, and completed application form. Additionally, online MBA programs may require that students submit results from the GRE or GMAT. However, some schools may waive this requirement depending on the applicant's academic history, GPA, or work history, so it is advised that prospective students check with each program they are interested in to confirm specific requirements.

To review the information discussed above, there are many different online MBA programs in Texas that differ in concentration offering, time to degree completion, and admission standards. These degree programs provide students with the flexibility of online coursework while still helping them advance their education and career.
