There are a number of options for students who are interested in enrolling in an online MBA program that accepts results from the GRE. This article highlights five of these programs by covering curricula, admission requirements, and other relevant details.

Submitting results from the GMAT is a common entrance requirement for many MBA programs, both traditional and online. However, there are a number of online programs available that accept results from the GRE rather than the GMAT, which may be good news for students who have already taken the GRE as well as for those who do not have the time or resources necessary to take the GMAT. Five of these programs are discussed in greater detail below.

Overview of Online MBA Programs That Accept the GRE

Xavier University

Xavier University offers an online MBA program that accepts the GRE. Students can complete the curriculum in between one and a half and three years, depending on the pace at which they take courses. Full-time students typically take two courses at a time, while part-time students take one course at a time, with each course taking eight weeks to complete. Generally, coursework is designed to be completed at each student's own pace, with very few synchronous class sessions. In total, students complete at least 39 credit hours, though students who lack a strong business background may be required to take up to 45 credit hours to complete necessary foundational-level courses. In addition to the 27-hour core curriculum, which covers topics like marketing strategy and business law, students can complete the elective courses according to their interests to fulfill program requirements.

Villanova University

Students who are interested in Villanova University's online MBA program are able to apply for admission using results from the GRE. In this program, students complete 48 credits, which are split over 21 courses that fall into one of five categories - fundamentals, core, VBS pillars, capstones, and electives. Students select from 11 elective options that can be organized into a specialization if they wish to pursue one. Specialization options include international business, analytics, and marketing, among others. Villanova's program is designed to be completed in a two-year timeframe, and while all the coursework is available online, students are required to attend an on-campus Leadership Challenge for one weekend during the first year of the program. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Global Practicum capstone project.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Another option for students seeking an online MBA that accepts GRE scores is the program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This program does not require students to submit any test results as a prerequisite for admission, though the submission of GRE scores is encouraged. In this program, all students complete courses that are organized by specializations, like managerial economics, financial management, and strategic leadership. Of the eight available specializations, students must complete six in order to fulfill the program requirements. Students also are able to select a focus area according to their interests, with options like global challenges in business, digital marketing, and entrepreneurship to choose from.

Marist College

Students may also be interested in the online MBA program at Marist College, which accepts GRE scores. This program accommodates both part-time and full-time students and can be completed in as few as four semesters, though it is also possible for students to take up to seven years to complete the curriculum. Students are required to complete nine core courses and an additional three elective courses. Students can pursue a concentration within the program. They have three options to choose from - health care administration, ethical leadership, and financial management. Some elective courses that students may take include corporate financial theory, ethical management, and US health care policies.

Oklahoma State University

Oklahoma State University's program is another option for students motivated to complete an MBA degree online. This program also accepts GRE scores from applicants and is designed for part-time enrollment. It requires that students complete 42 hours of coursework. The core curriculum makes up 30 of these hours, and then students are able to select the remaining 12 hours from elective options. When choosing elective coursework, online students may be interested in pursuing a concentration area, of which OSU offers nine. Some of these options include information assurance, entrepreneurship, energy business, and nonprofit management.

General Admission Standards for Online MBA Programs That Accept the GRE

When applying to an online MBA program that accepts the GRE, students need to submit a number of other documents in addition to exam results in order to be considered for admission. These typically include undergraduate transcripts, letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and a professional CV or resume. These programs may also encourage applicants to have some years of professional work experience in order to make their application more attractive, while other programs state no such preferences. Additionally, some programs require that students complete extra coursework if they do not have an academic business background.

There are a number of programs available for students who would like to enroll in an online MBA program that accepts GRE results. These programs differ in a variety of ways, including program structure, course options, and timeframe, so students will likely still want to research each individual program to determine which one is right for them.
