Massachusetts Schools Offering Graduate Programs in Physical Therapy

University of Massachusetts, Lowell

The DPT program at UMass Lowell includes a total of 95 credits in classroom coursework, while 34 weeks of the three-year program are spent inside a clinical setting. You'll begin their program promptly in the summer before your first fall, with emphasis on making decisions and developing skills inside the lab. A number of different settings for clinical exercises are used for this program, including sports medicine, acute care, and women's health. You'll participate in classroom lectures as well as small group discussions during traditional classes.

Massachusetts General Hospital of Health Professions

With the MGH Institute, there is no distinct difference between the classroom and clinical atmospheres. You'll participate in simulated scenarios where you will use what you learn to make decisions that could be used in real cases once you become a physical therapist. Under direct supervision, you'll be able to provide direct care to clients who can't afford services elsewhere. Team-based exercises are at the center of your learning experience while you earn 102 credits in three years for a DPT at MGH. Many of the faculty members keep clinical appointments, which allows you to experience intimate perspectives of patient care.

Simmons University

Lasting three years, the 99-credit DPT program at Simmons University emphasizes research as much as the clinical experience. Simmons is home to a well-equipped research lab. All students are required to finish a capstone course, in which small groups research a question found in clinical practice sessions. The results will be shared during group presentations at Simmons' Physical Therapy Research Day.

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

In the DPT program at MCPHS, three years, including summers, is all it takes to earn 123 credit hours for your credentials to become a physical therapist. The labs and service learning opportunities combine to give you the skills you need to succeed in a patient care setting. The program focuses on immersion and allows you to experience courses in their natural setting. Once you graduate, you'll be able to take your licensing exam and start a career. Courses in the MCPHS program can include lifespan motor control, clinical imaging, and neuroscience.

Boston University

In Boston University's three-year, 91-credit DPT program, it won't take long for you to begin directly engaging with patients and clinical experts. A regular routine of physical therapy practice happens each Friday as part of your learning experience. A total of 44 weeks are devoted to full-time clinical study, which includes an internship that lasts for six months. BU is home to its own physical therapy center, as well as an athletic training lab.
