Description of Presbyterian Colleges in Georgia

Georgia offers at least four Presbyterian colleges that offer diverse degree programs, spiritual growth opportunities and extracurricular activities. Here we discuss some of the distinguishing features for these schools.

Covenant College

According to the NCES, Covenant College had 1,030 undergraduate students in 2017. The college offers a Master of Arts in Teaching or a Master of Education degree program, as well as a wide range of undergraduate degree programs in subjects such as international studies, chemistry, pre-physical therapy, sociology and French. Students may also choose to participate in a variety of clubs and organizations, like robotics, rugby, drama, climbing and Model UN. The college encourages spiritual growth by offering weekly chapel services, different faith-based lectures and conferences and other spiritual activities, including Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

Reformed University

Reformed University provides students with general education courses, bachelor's degree programs in business administration or theological studies and a master's degree program in divinity. In addition to its already relatively low tuition rates, the school offers several different scholarships to students, including tuition assistance for ministers. The university requires students to attend weekly chapel services, but students can further develop their faith through other worship services and/or Bible studies. As of 2017, the NCES reported that the school had close to 120 undergraduate students.

Agnes Scott College

Agnes Scott College is an undergraduate institution that had about 920 students in 2017, according to the NCES. Students can grow spiritually through worship services, service opportunities, faith and learning lectures and/or participation in spiritual organizations, such as FCA, Interfaith Council and InterVarsity. Other organizations and clubs on campus include Public Health Club, International Student Association, Studio Dance Theatre and Collegiate Chorale. Students at the college can pursue majors in areas like neuroscience, mathematics, art, women's studies, anthropology, political science and religious studies.

Columbia Theological Seminary

Columbia Theological Seminary is a unique, 4-year graduate school that had close to 190 students in 2017, per the NCES. The school offers master's degree programs for professionals and volunteers in theology, theological studies and divinity, as well as doctoral degree programs in ministry and educational ministry. Students can grow in their faith through weekly chapel services, serving on Senior Chapel Teams and/or utilizing one of the many worship spaces on campus for prayer and study. The seminary also has a variety of student organizations on campus, including Fellowship for Theological Discussion, Outreach and Justice, Spouses of Seminarians and African Heritage Student Association.
