Career Definition of a Process Development Manager

Process development managers ensure that their company produces the best products possible while operating according to applicable laws and regulations. In order to do their job effectively they need to be familiar with the production process and the regulations. Ultimately, they need to ensure that their company would meet expected standards in an audit. They maintain records of their work to help demonstrate that their lab or factory meets expected production standards.

Part of their work involves assessing production methods. Process development managers look for ways to improve production. They may be able to identify ways to reduce production costs, improve regulation compliance or produce a better product. They also perform regular tests and inspections to ensure that everything is operating as expected and that the products meet quality standards. They may identify different equipment that should be used for production purposes and may also oversee the implementation of that equipment. When new procedures, equipment or regulations are put in place they are responsible for ensuring that staff receive appropriate training.
