Schools in Kansas Offering Graduate Programs in Psychology

University of Kansas

Inside the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, you can find one graduate degree program in psychology that earns you a Ph.D. in the field. The school does not offer a terminal master's degree as part of this program. You can choose to study Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, or the newest area, Brain, Behavior, and Quantitative Science. KU also offers a separate training program in Clinical Child Psychology.

Kansas State University

With Kansas State University in Manhattan, you have a couple of different options when beginning your career as a psychology graduate student. A hybrid Master of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial and Organizational Psychology lasts for 38 credits. You will attend courses in person and online as part of this degree. It takes a total of two and a half years to complete, including summer sessions. The doctoral level contains four areas of options for study: Behavioral Neuroscience/Animal Learning, Cognitive/Human Factors, Industrial/Organizational, or Social/Personality. Each track has its own set of specialized courses you will take, leading up to a dissertation.

Washburn University

Washburn University in Topeka grants a Master of Arts in Psychology to students entering the clinical psychology graduate program. You will go through a minimum of 60 hours in your studies, which includes an internship, guaranteed by the university. You might choose to go on to a doctoral program afterward, and your studies at the master's level will prepare you better than just an undergraduate degree. Once you complete the program, you will immediately be ready for a Kansas license as a Temporary Licensed Master's Level Psychologist. You will take courses that include diversity issues in assessment and treatment, introduction to psychotherapy techniques, and intermediate statistics.

Fort Hays State University

The Department of Psychology at Fort Hays State University in Hays is unique in that it requires you to complete a double degree as part of admission. Once you are finished, you will receive a master's degree and a Master of Education Specialist in School Psychology. You will finish an internship with a total of 1,200 hours before you receive your credentials. Many different program formats are available, including an online option for those who prefer distance education, or an accelerated program for students who are well-qualified. For residents of Kansas, you can also choose a respecialization track.

University of St. Mary

Earning a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Saint Mary's campus in Overland Park allows you to study five different tracks while attending your courses. You can choose from Kansas Licensed Professional Counselor (which includes Missouri credentials as well), Missouri Licensed Professional Counselor, Kansas Master Addictions Counselor, Kansas Masters Level Psychologist, or Kansas Masters Level Psychologist and Missouri Licensed Professional Counselor. A Master Addiction Counselor credential will increase your hiring potential once you graduate from the program. Regardless of your track choice, you can expect to take courses that include counseling theories, life span development, and methods of research and assessment.
