Virginia Schools Offering Psychology Graduate Programs

Regent University

Regent University offers a variety of graduate degrees in psychology. An online master's degree is offered in general psychology, which includes coursework in human social interactions. Online doctoral degrees include educational psychology as well as counseling and psychological studies. Students can earn a doctoral degree in clinical psychology on campus, which prepares students to treat emotional or mental disorders. Admission requirements for graduate degrees vary by program. As an example, master's degree candidates will need a bachelor's degree and an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75.

University of Virginia

The University of Virginia awards doctoral degrees in psychology. Students can choose from seven areas of concentrations: cognitive, clinical, developmental, community, social and systems, behavioral neuroscience, and qualitative. Students' initial admission application can only include one concentration; however, they can add additional ones later. Students must complete the online admissions application and submit their undergraduate transcripts, scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and an $85 non-refundable processing fee.

Radford University

Students can pursue master's and doctoral degrees at Radford University. Master's degrees are available in industrial and organizational psychology, experimental psychology, and clinical-counseling psychology. Radford also offers a doctoral degree in school psychology. The admissions process consists of an application, a letter of interest and essay, and undergraduate transcripts. Students will need a 3.5 undergraduate GPA.

James Madison University

James Madison University offers master's and doctoral degrees in psychology. Master's degree options are school psychology and psychological sciences, with areas of focus in applied research, behavioral sciences, experimental psychology, and quantitative psychology. A doctoral degree is available in combined-integrated clinical and school psychology. Students will need to submit an online application, along with their undergraduate transcripts, a personal statement, and three recommendation letters. They must also submit their scores from the General Test of the GRE.

George Mason University

At George Mason University, students can earn a master's degree in psychology that allows them to specialize in cognitive and behavioral neuroscience, applied developmental psychology, human factors/applied cognition, or industrial/organizational psychology. Master's degree candidates will need to complete an online admissions application that includes their college transcripts, a goals statement, GRE scores, three recommendation letters, and a resume. The doctoral program at George Mason offers the same areas of specialization as the master's degree program and has the same admission requirements. It should be noted that GRE scores cannot be more than five years old.
