Students who desire advanced public health knowledge but are not ready to delve into a full graduate program might choose a graduate certificate in public health.

Admission requirements for graduate degrees in public health are usually standard and include official transcripts, GRE or GMAT scores, essays or statements of purpose, and letters of recommendation. Graduate certificate programs typically have fewer admission requirements, and doctoral programs may have a work experience requirement.

Florida A & M University

Florida A&M University, a public university in Tallahassee, offers onsite and online Master of Public Health degrees. Individuals enrolling in the online program must have three years of experience in the health field. Both programs require 50 semester hours for completion. Students who enroll in the MPH program can choose from one of three concentrations: behavioral services and health education, epidemiology and biostatistics, or environmental and occupational health. Graduation requirements include an internship and a comprehensive examination.

The school also offers a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH). Applicants to the DrPH program should have an MPH degree. Those with master's degrees complete the program in 60 hours, and candidates without an MPH must complete 78 hours. Doctoral students are also required to complete and defend a dissertation.

Florida State University

Florida State University, a public university in Tallahassee, offers a Master of Public Health degree that prepares students for roles as health policy analysts. Prerequisite courses are not required for admission and the bachelor's degree can be in any field. The degree requires 42 semester hours, including a capstone project, career portfolio, and an internship. Students may choose nine electives. The school permits students to study part-time or full-time.

Nova Southeastern University

Located in Ft. Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University is a private, non-profit institution that offers on-site and online Master of Public Health programs with identical curricula. The online program offers asynchronous and synchronous courses. Students enrolled in the online program must attend an on-site orientation at the beginning of the program and complete an exit survey at the end of the program. Nova Southeastern University also offers online graduate certificates in health education and public health. Both certificates require 15 semester hours of synchronous and asynchronous classes.

University of North Florida

Jacksonville is the home of the University of North Florida. The school offers the Master of Public Health degree, which requires the completion of 45 semester hours. Enrollees may study full-time or part-time by distance learning, face-to-face classes, or in a hybrid program where they take distance learning and on-site courses. One MPH cohort enters the program each fall. Degree candidates may choose a concentration in epidemiology or health promotion. The University of North Florida also offers public health graduate certificates in global health (12 semester hours) and public health (15 semester hours).

University of West Florida

The University of West Florida is a public university located in Pensacola. The university offers a Master of Public Health degree that requires 42 semester hours to complete. The program is offered online and takes about two years to finish. Students have the option of earning an MPH Generalist degree or an MPH in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior. The university also offers online graduate certificates in emergency management, environmental health, infection control, and occupational safety and health.
