Students must also complete a master's project in which they design and implement a public relations campaign.

Hofstra University

Hofstra is a private non-profit university located in Hempstead, New York. The school offers a Master of Arts in Public Relations that requires 36 credit hours to complete. The program is flexible, allowing students to study during the evenings, on Saturdays, or online. Students can complete the Saturday program in 16 months, and the evening (weeknight) program can be completed in four semesters. Along with the core courses typically offered in public relations master's programs, students can add a marketing concentration by taking three marketing courses. A capstone project is required where students participate in a team effort to develop a multimedia marketing campaign for a non-profit agency. An internship and an independent study course are also offered as electives.

Iona College

Iona College is a private institution in New Rochelle, New York. The public relations graduate program at Iona requires 36 credit hours for completion and leads to a Master of Arts. In addition to core cores and electives, students may choose to write and defend a thesis, or take a comprehensive exam and write a 10-page paper to meet graduation requirements. Degree candidates must have at least a 3.0 GPA to graduate, and they have five years to complete the program.

New York University

Located in New York City, New York University is a private non-profit university that offers a Master of Science in Public Relations and Corporate Communication at the NYU Midtown Center and online. Students may choose a concentration in corporate and organizational communication or public relations management. In addition to core courses and concentration area courses, each candidate for graduation must complete a capstone project to study a problem or issue in public relations. The project requires faculty approval, and it should result in a worthwhile contribution to the field. The program requires 42 credit hours for completion, and students can study full-time or part-time.

Syracuse University

Syracuse University, a private research institution in upstate New York, offers a Master of Science in Public Relations with a professional track that requires 40 credit hours and a thesis track that requires 40.5 credit hours. Students choosing the professional track complete a culminating experience where they work full-time in a professional setting for at least eight weeks. Students in the professional track must keep a journal of the experience and complete evaluations during and at the completion of the program.
