ROTC military training develops leadership skills for life. In addition, ROTC offers an opportunity for cadets to become commissioned officers upon joining the armed forces. The schools below offer active ROTC programs for the development and advancement for both men and women.

University of Houston

The University of Houston (UH) offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. With over 43,000 students, this school offers ROTC programs for the Army, Air Force, and Navy. UH's Army ROTC offers a monthly stipend to contracted cadets. In addition, there are 2-, 3- and 4-year scholarships and a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarship. This school also has contacts with the community which makes a number of scholarships available to ROTC cadets. College credits may be granted for ROTC classes and training that are applicable to degrees.

Texas A&M University - College Station

The home of the Aggies has active ROTC programs for the Army, Air Force, and Navy. There is a cadet dormitory on the Quad, which also has staff on-hand for academic assistance and mandatory study time to improve the likelihood of cadets' academic success. There are over 2,000 scholarships available to ROTC members at Texas A&M, and the school has given $4 million to cadets annually for their education and support. These scholarships are both need and merit based, and more than 90% of cadets are on scholarship.

Texas A&M University - College Station enrolls more than 65,000 students and offers bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees.

The University of Texas at Austin

The Austin campus of the University of Texas offers ROTC programs for Army, Air Force, and Navy candidates. The Army ROTC program offers 2-4-year scholarships and funds for books and stipends. The NROTC also has 2- and 4-year scholarships and provides in-state tuition to contracted cadets. This school gives college credit for qualified ROTC activities. The engineering and nursing departments offer ROTC scholarships to cadets enrolled in these departments. The Air Force ROTC allows cadets to preview the program through a special summer program before starting active duty.

The University of Texas at Austin enrolls more than 51,000 students. The school offers vocational and professional certificates as well as degrees, from associate's degrees through doctorates.

The University of Texas at Arlington

This school hosts the Maverick Battalion, an Army ROTC program. The U.S. Air Force ROTC ranked the school's Air Force ROTC Detachment 845 unit No. 7 out of 145 units nationwide. Detachment 845 is co-located at Texas Christian University. Cadets can earn college credits for ROTC training. There are also 80 dorm room scholarships for ROTC students and several other scholarships for ROTC cadets.

With over 45,000 students, the University of Texas at Arlington offers vocational professional certificates as well as bachelor's and advanced degrees.

Sam Houston State University

This school is home to the Army ROTC Bearkat Battalion. Access to the ROTC Living Learning Center can help students to be more successful in academic endeavors. The school also gives students the opportunity to earn academic credit for qualified ROTC training. Sam Houston has a 1,600-acre training facility and a large number of scholarships available to cadets on both merit and need-based terms. There are several ROTC clubs, including cannon crew, color guard, rifle team, and collaborations with local charities and organizations.

Sam Houston offers bachelor's through doctoral degrees. There are just over 20,000 students enrolled at this 4-year school.
