The timeline to completion varies from four to seven years. Students must pass a series of dissertation modules to graduate, including writing and defending a position paper on biblical doctrine. Students must take foreign language courses to increase their fluency if they do not have working knowledge of the languages necessary for each concentration (Hebrew for the Old Testament concentration and Greek for the New Testament concentration).

Lancaster Bible College

The coursework is further broken down into 32 hours of biblical studies and eight in education courses. The college's program is designed for those who must maintain their ministry residency, and so it has a blended curriculum of online and face-to-face courses. Students work in a cohort and gather three times per year. The program is designed to increase proficiency in Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic.

The university is located in the center of Washington D.C. and has 22 research facilities. Areas of research for doctoral candidates are many, including: exegesis, theology, archaeology, and language studies. Students must have a working knowledge of German and French, as well as advanced Hebrew and Greek (9 credit hours each are required at the master's level as a prerequisite). Students are expected to already have or develop proficiency in a third ancient language. Language classes do not count toward the overall credits in the program. Comprehensive exams and a dissertation are required for degree completion.
