New York Schools with Graduate Programs in Sports Management

Columbia University

Columbia University in New York City has an on-campus Master of Science (MS) in Sports Management. The program is available in part- or full-time formats and takes 3 to 8 terms to complete. Students in the program take 3 courses from designated areas and then customize their degree with 5 courses from specializations in global sports, digital sports media and marketing or sports analytics. The program also has a sports project requirement in which students complete a final project or an internship experience in the field.

SUNY Cortland

SUNY Cortland offers an MS in International Sport Management and a traditional MS in Sport Management, which is available in an on-campus or online format. The International Sport Management program requires 24 credits to be completed on-campus and the remaining 6 credits to be completed in an international location as part of the program's required international project. The program also includes an internship/master's project or thesis component. The traditional MS in Sport Management is also 30 credits, can be taken part- or full-time and includes an internship/master's project or thesis component.

CUNY Brooklyn College

CUNY Brooklyn College in Brooklyn offers an MS in Sport Management through the Department of Kinesiology. Students interested in the program should have a background in sport management and the sport business industry. The program requires 36 credits, including 15 credits of electives from upper-division courses in the Department of Kinesiology. Required courses for the program include topics in sport marketing, research methods, business management, sport finance and legal issues.

St. John's University

St. John's University in Queens has a unique Masters of Professional Studies (MPS) in Sport Management. Students can pursue the degree on a part- or full-time basis and can complete the program in as little as 18 months. The program totals 36 credits and includes two separate capstone projects. Students in the program also have the opportunity to further specialize their degree with electives in the areas of coaching leadership or international business of sport management.

Canisius College

Buffalo's Canisius College offers a Master's in Sport Administration (MSA) that is available in on-campus or online formats. The program can be completed in 1 year and was ranked 3rd in the nation for Best Online Master's Programs in Sports Management by Bestcolleges.com in 2017. Students can also participate in internship, independent research and/or study abroad opportunities throughout the program. Specific course topics include risk management, leadership, professional sports and sport marketing.

Common Entrance Requirements
