Springfield College

Springfield College offers a Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Psychology. The M.S. degree is designed for people who are beginning their longer tenure in graduate school and plan to finish with a doctorate. You will gain insight to psychological as well as philosophical and physiological perspectives throughout the degree. If you choose this track, you are eligible to complete a thesis. Part of your research includes a proposal design and a course in educational and psychological statistics.

As a master's student, you can expect to go through classes in motor learning and control, sport psychometrics, and the philosophy of sport. Before you enter this program as a graduate student, you'll need to be sure that you have covered certain subjects as an undergraduate. These courses include anatomy and physiology, assessment in movement and sport, and the physiology of exercise.

Boston University

Boston University's Wheelock College of Education and Human Development offers a Master of Education in Counseling. One of the concentrations available in this degree is sports psychology. As a part of this program, you'll enjoy classes in sport theory, sport psychology research, and the psychology of coaching teams.

As part of the degree requirements, you will spend a total of 400 hours in a sport psychology-centered internship. This will help you meet eligibility requirements for the title of Association of Applied Sport Psychology Certified Consultant as well as meet certain pre-master's requirements for the licensed mental health counselor credential.

University of Massachusetts, Boston

The Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program faculty at UMass Boston looks for people who have an existing master's degree in an applied psychological area of study. If you have earned a master's degree in sports psychology, you could be a perfect fit for studying at the doctoral level. A total of 91 credits are required to earn the doctoral degree, which includes a full time internship along with four to five years of study. You will teach at least one semester during your time as a Ph.D. student, and you will join a faculty-student research team for five semesters. This gives you the chance to work with mentors on papers and other presentations throughout your career as a doctoral student.

Admissions Requirements for Sports Psychology Graduate Programs in Massachusetts

This should be reflected in your transcripts, which must be official and sent directly from the institution to your future graduate college. At least two letters of recommendation should be sent by those who are familiar with your ability to do research at an advanced level. GRE scores, if required, can be sent to each school directly from ETS as soon as you have completed each exam. You might have more than one essay to write, depending on the graduate program to which you're applying. Application fees will vary from school to school.

Beginning a sports psychology-related graduate program in Massachusetts could happen at the master's or doctoral level. Be prepared for a heavy amount of research and clinical study at either level before you earn a degree in this field.
