Graduate students seeking a Master of Business Administration degree in New York City have many different options to choose from in terms of their course load and preferred school schedule. Some MBA programs can be completed in one year. A weekend MBA program in NYC allows students who have a limited schedule or who already have a career in progress to attend classes on the weekends and earn their degree on their own terms.

Weekend MBA Program Admittance Requirements

One of the most important criteria to consider when choosing a weekend MBA program in New York City is the admittance requirements for each school. While these may fluctuate depending on the program, many require students to have a bachelor's degree and to take the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT, before applying for an MBA program. Some programs require work experience in lieu of standardized test scores.

NYC Schools Offering Weekend MBA Programs

Baruch College - Zicklin School of Business

The Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College offers an Executive MBA program that allows students to complete classes on Saturdays at its New York City campus. Students within this program need to complete 48 credits over the course of 20 months. The curriculum also includes an international trip lasting 8-10 days. Admission requires 5-7 years of experience. GRE or GMAT scores are not required.

Cornell University - SC Johnson College of Business

What makes the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business Executive MBA program unique is the alternating weekend schedule that allows students to earn their degree within a two-year period. Courses take place in New York City, but the program also includes four week-long residential components in Ithaca, NY. The curriculum focuses on general management principles during the first year, while diving into other areas, such as global business and advanced strategic analysis, during the second year. Students are not required to provide GMAT or GRE scores in order to be considered for the Executive MBA program; however, applicants may still voluntarily submit their scores if preferred.

Binghamton University - State University of New York

Binghamton University offers a 12-month, New York City-based professional MBA program for individuals looking to earn a degree through an accelerated weekend schedule. Classes are held on Saturdays, as not to interfere with typical career schedules. Students can expect to study leadership development, statistical analysis, managerial communications, and advanced finance to name a few course topics. Admission into the program requires a GMAT or GRE score to be submitted along with the application; however, GMAT is the preferred choice for admission.

Pace University - Lubin School of Business

Pace University offers an Executive MBA program through its Lubin School of Business for students who have at least five years of professional experience. The program takes 20 months to complete. Classes are held every 10 weeks from Friday through Sunday in New York City. In between these sessions, students complete coursework online. Topics of study include corporate finance, data analysis, and operations management. Students also undertake a capstone project.

New York University - Stern School of Business

The Stern School of Business at New York University offers a part-time MBA program that allows students to take classes on weekends, primarily Saturdays, at the Manhattan campus in order to fit them into their career schedule. The curriculum can be completed at students' own pace and offers specializations in management and finance. GMAT or GRE scores are required in order to apply, but the business school does not have a cut off score. Students who have taken the test more than once will have the highest total score considered by the admissions committee.

Pursuing an MBA in New York City on weekends allows students the flexibility to maintain a career while also leveling up their business knowledge. Weekend MBA programs might end up taking longer to earn when compared to full-time MBA programs, but could pay off for those who already are within their chosen career field.
