Introductory Aviation Electronics Course

This entry-level avionics repair course is completed at the beginning of a degree program. Students develop math and analytical skills which will help in aviation repair. They practice problem-solving techniques and become familiar with common avionics repair terminology and procedures. This is a required course.

Soldering in Aviation Course

Students taking this course gain practical experience soldering, which is a common procedure in avionics maintenance. Students solder parts and test them to make sure that all connections are reliable. The course includes techniques for repairing electronic circuitry and testing circuits for safety and reliability.

Avionics Maintenance and Theory Course

Students taking this course practice maintaining communications and navigation systems. They test and control ultra high frequency (UHF), high frequency (HF) and very high frequency (VHF) systems, all of which are commonly used in aircraft communications. They study the pulse systems used in aviation systems and the role of the systems both on-board and in other applications. Most courses examine the history of avionics to help students understand the evolution of avionics communications technologies.

Practical Maintenance in Avionics Course

This intermediate avionics repair course combines the skills acquired in theoretical coursework. Students gain experience using, maintaining and repairing a variety of mechanical and electrical systems. Students will learn about radar detectors and collision avoidance systems, discovering how they detect weather and approaching planes, and the tools and skills used to maintain and repair these invaluable avionics systems.

Flight Management and Control Preparation Course

In this course, students study flight control and management systems. Students practice troubleshooting techniques and gain experience using and repairing avionics equipment, including transmitters, receivers, and aviation circuits. Students study and review the regulations of the Federal Communications Commission.
