Career Requirements

A license is required to become a barber in Massachusetts. Licensure requires applicants pass the two-part Massachusetts barber examination, which consists of a written and a practical component. In order to be eligible to sit for the exam, an individual typically must complete a program at an approved barbering school and obtain work experience in an apprenticeship under the supervision of a master barber.
