San Diego City College
This cosmetology program offers day and evening class options for students. Classes can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. While enrolled, students gain hands-on experience through lab courses.
Certificate of Achievement in Cosmetology
The cosmetology certificate program requires 42.5 units to complete. Students can take a single cosmetology fundamentals course or complete two sequential cosmetology fundamentals classes. Similarly, the intermediate and advanced cosmetology laboratory sessions can be broken up into two sequential classes. The rest of the program's curriculum covers topics in basic business practices, the state board review, chemistry and chemical services, industry rules and skin diseases.
Associate in Science in Cosmetology
The core courses for this program are identical to the certificate program in cosmetology. However, in addition to major classes, students must complete additional classes in chemistry fundamentals and business. Students also take general education courses. To earn this associate degree, students must complete at least 60 units of coursework. Out of the required units, 49.5 must be in cosmetology major courses.
