Career School of NY

To enter into this school's cosmetology program, students must receive a passing score on the entrance examination and possess a GED or high school diploma.

Cosmetology Program

A minimum of 1,000 hours has to be completed in order to graduate from this program. Students who are in the program learn about hair coloring, hair cutting, hair analysis and hair styling. The rest of the curriculum goes over makeup application, professional development, salon management, sanitation, skin care and manicuring. In total, students are required to purchase four different textbooks.

Union County Vocational Technical School

Students of this program receive specialized training in areas such as anatomy and physiology, electricity and chemistry, cosmetology sciences and infection control.

Cosmetology Program

Nail care, skin care, hair care and the business of cosmetology are the four main focuses of this cosmetology program. In the hair care courses, students learn to work with hair enhancements and wigs along with natural hair. Waxing, facials, makeup application and tweezing are all issues covered in the skin care area of the program. Finally, students are also educated on nail art, gels, acrylics and nail extensions. By the end of this program, students will have completed at least 1,000 instruction hours and be ready to take the New Jersey licensing exam.

Western Suffolk BOCES

At this school, students can pursue a course that helps prepare them for the New York cosmetology state board examination.

Cosmetology Program

Safety and professional requirements are just two of the issues covered in this program's curriculum. Students also learn about physiology and anatomy in order to help them with their cosmetology work. Other courses in this program go over chemical restructuring, hair coloring and lightening, keratin treatment, shampoos and chemistry as applied to cosmetology. If students have already accumulated cosmetology hours from another school, this program allows them to only take the additional hours they need for licensing.
