Standing Up For Social Justice & Equity: Study.com's Support for Black Lives Matter

study.com updates

The senseless killings of George Floyd and so many other Black men and women throughout the history of the United States, whose lives were robbed mercilessly, have shaken us all to our core.

We stand united in steadfast support and solidarity with the Black community. I am deeply hurt, and saddened when I think about the systemic racism towards Black people that exists in the United States and around the world, and how it has been perpetuated over the centuries, and continues to be reinforced through significant inequalities in educational resources and outcomes for Black students and other students of color.

At Study.com, we know that strong communities are built on the power of our diversity. And we understand that there is so much work to be done. We will continue to strive to understand the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our team members, and we will continue to focus on increasing access to education for all. We are also committing to like-minded organizations so that we can collaborate to create a more significant and longer-lasting social impact.

We recognize that words must be accompanied by deeds. Together with other community leaders in Silicon Valley, we pledge united action to eradicate racism in substantive and specific ways. To create change, at Study.com we are increasing the time and resources spent on employee and workplace initiatives which further this cause -- we have much to learn from a more in-depth dialogue with our communities of color. We are also donating to several charitable organizations supporting inclusion and working to end racial inequities, including the Equal Justice Initiative, while matching two-for-one all employee donations. These are initial steps in our broader commitment to meaningful action towards social justice and education access for all.

In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 'The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.' In this darkness, let's resolve to stand together and represent light. And never stop.

In Solidarity,
