Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology - Service Technician

The Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology program prepares students for entry-level automotive technician positions at independent repair shops, dealerships or related environments. Students learn about brake systems, suspension and steering systems, electrical systems, electronic lighting and accessories, electronic controls, engine repair, heating and air conditioning, engine removal and installation, engine performance, drive train and axles, and automatic transmission and transaxles.

Six credit hours of cooperative work experience are required, which combine hands-on diagnostic and service training with classroom lectures. Program graduates interested in becoming BMW certified technicians have the knowledge and skills necessary to enter a BMW-sponsored training program.

Lincoln College of Technology - Grand Prairie

Lincoln Tech features a number of programs devoted to career skills development, one of which focuses on automotive technology. Applicants need to have completed a Lincoln Automotive Technology program no more than two months before applying to this program.

BMW Service Technician Education Program (STEP)

Building off of skills developed in a more general program, this training program focuses exclusively on BMWs and delivers specialized training in a number of advanced topics. Students can learn about concepts such as wheel alignment, warranty documentation, fiber-optic systems, control module coding, and much more. Students will also benefit from Lincoln's state-of-the-art facility, which is designed specifically for BMW repair.
