Austin Community College District

This Austin school serves eight counties in central Texas. Students can enroll in a certificate program in outdoor power equipment with a specialization in marine engine repair. The program focuses on maintaining and repairing watercraft and boat engines. Students learn how to perform equipment tune-up and overhaul procedures, equipment failure safety checks and electrical systems troubleshooting. Training is offered on a full-time schedule and runs for three semesters.

Cedar Valley College

Part of the Dallas County Community College District, this school's main campus is found in Lancaster. Students seeking entry-level positions in the field can enroll in the marine engine technology program. Courses are designed to equip students with skills in performing diagnostic procedures, repairs, tune-ups and maintenance on marine engines. Students also receive training on marine electrical systems and drive units. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded a level one certificate.

Texas State Technical College - West Texas

Aspiring boat maintenance and repair technicians can complete a program in diesel technology at the Sweetwater campus. Students learn how to work on boat engines through a diesel technology associate's degree program. Training covered in this program deals with various vehicles and equipment that run on diesel-powered engines, including boats. Topics covered include engine and powertrain repair and maintenance. Advanced training in diesel engine tune-up and electronic systems is also offered. Diesel equipment technology certificates are also offered in off-highway equipment and outdoor power equipment.
