Bunker Hill Community College's Adult Education Programs
Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC), situated north of Boston, offers non-credit courses through its Office of Community Education. Courses are designed for students of all academic, experience and age levels. Courses are offered online and at the Charlestown campus.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses
BHCC offers extensive ESL courses, starting with beginner courses in basic conversation, speaking and writing. For advanced students, it offers courses for fluent ESL speakers trying to improve their accent and pronunciation. TOEFL and GED preparation courses are also offered.
Basic computing courses are offered to students with little or no prior computer experience. An introductory course is offered, along with courses in popular software applications like Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
Health and Medical Courses
BHCC offers training courses designed for those who work in the healthcare industry. A Basic Life Support (BLS) course can earn a two-year BLS certification, or a medical interpreting certificate program can be completed for interpreters who wish to work in medical facilities such as health agencies, hospitals, and clinics.
Students can learn basic drink mixing, serving and bartending skills through BHCC's bartending course. The course is held in a simulated bar setting. Those who complete the course are awarded a Certificate of Completion.
Pre-Real Estate Sales Course
This course is designed for individuals interested in becoming real estate sales agents. Students who complete the course are eligible to sit for the Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson exam.
Roxbury Community College's Adult Education Programs
Roxbury Community College (RCC) also offers opportunities for adult learners. Prospective students can take individual non-credit courses, or they may complete a certificate program. The college is located just west of Boston.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Courses
RCC offers several ESOL (sometimes referred to as ESL) courses for adults at various levels of fluency. Courses range from beginning to advanced. Writing, pronunciation and conversation courses are also offered.
Health Records Technology Specialist
Courses in keyboarding for medical offices, medical front desk specialist training and medical billing are offered. These courses prepare adult learners for positions as electronic health records technology specialists.
University of Massachusetts- Lowell's Adult Education Programs
The University of Massachusetts- Lowell's Division of Online and Continuing Education offers certificates and undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Lowell, MA, is about 30 miles from Boston, MA.
This certificate program is offered fully online or in a hybrid format. Students study litigation, real estate law and more. This program can also be applied towards a bachelor's degree in the field.
Also available fully online or in a hybrid format, this bachelor's degree program can be taken full- or part-time. Students can choose from a wide range of topics in psychology, including learning and behavior, cognitive psychology and human sexuality, and also participate in psychology seminars.
This online master's program prepares students for public, nonprofit, corporate or government accounting. Students take courses in auditing, cost management, taxation and more. The program totals 30 credits made up of 10 courses.
