Programs related to broadcasting in New Hampshire include bachelor's degree options in media studies, mass communications or communication arts. Students are able to gain training in the latest digital and multimedia technology through on-campus television and radio stations or video production studios where students can develop practical broadcasting skills. Other programs integrate hands-on internship experiences. Profiled below are four private not-for-profit colleges and universities and one public university offering relevant education for students interested in pursuing a broadcasting career.


Colby-Sawyer College

This private, not-for-profit college is located in New London and offers a bachelor's program in media and communication. Students take core major courses and can focus their studies on broadcast-related coursework, including video production and radio station operations. The school houses a student-run FM radio station, which broadcasts to the campus and surrounding community. The media and communication program also has a YouTube channel and a video production complex with a control room and video editing suites.

Franklin Pierce University

The Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication in Rindge houses Franklin Pierce University's Department of Mass Communication. The school offers a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with concentrations in journalism, media production and media studies. The media production concentration provides coursework in field production, television production and audio production. In addition, students can learn hands-on broadcast skills in the Patterson TV studio, applying what they've learned in their production, broadcast, media and communication courses.

New England College

Located in Henniker, New England College is a private, not-for-profit institution that offers a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. This program requires students to complete communications core courses, along with classes in production, editing and multimedia. The school operates an FM radio station, WNEC, as part of its media studies program. The programming is streamed live on the Internet, providing students with hands-on broadcast experience.

Southern New Hampshire University

Manchester-based Southern New Hampshire University offers a bachelor's program in communication. Through core and elective coursework, students can study presentation skills, journalism and video production. The school has a radio station, Radioactive 1620, that allows students to contribute to programming and gain hands-on experience. In addition, students may have opportunities to work with actual clients and to participate in internships.

University of New Hampshire at Manchester

Located in Manchester, this public university has a communication arts bachelor's program with concentrations in media and cinema arts; news and public relations; and relational communication. Course topics can include video production techniques, news reporting, radio production and media writing. Students have access to a variety of equipment, including a video lab, a broadcast mixer and handheld field recorders. Internships are available as well.
