Accounting and Budgeting Management Course

Through this introductory budget management course, students learn the basics of accounting and bank account structures, including checking, savings, sponsored and unsponsored accounts. They also learn how to monitor, track and record account activity in order to create and monitor monthly and yearly budgets. Upon completion, students should be able to identify the appropriate financial products or accounts for various budget situations.

Federal Budgeting Introduction

This beginning budget management class covers the basic principles of federal budgeting. Students become familiar with the process of preparing, evaluating and modifying budgets in regular intervals throughout the year. Budgeting is taught using terminology, concepts and techniques. Students also learn about levels of responsibility with regard to federal budgeting.

Consumer Finance Course

Consumer finance courses are designed to familiarize students with the effects personal financial decisions and the importance of budgets for attaining financial goals. Students set financial goals, such as saving money, investing, and completing budgets to help them achieve these goals. Typically, this course is open to anyone who is interested in creating a budget or learning more about the principles of personal finance. Upon completion of this budget management course, students will understand ways to save money and how to create realistic budgets.

Budget Development and Entry Course

Designed for business majors and professionals, this intermediate budget management course uses the financial software, PeopleSoft, to create budget development plans. Through this system, students can create imaginary business budgets and see how estimated revenue and expenditures are affected from month to month; based on information gathered in the current year, changes in budget estimates can be made for the following year. Coursework includes analyzing many business budget plans to understand how they work and decide which plans work best for various types of businesses.
