Cuyahoga Community College

Prospective CAD students can find a certificate program offered at Cleveland's Cuyahoga Community College. Also known as Tri-C, this school is the largest and oldest community college in Ohio. The school's CAD certificate program is designed to help students acquire entry-level CAD skills.

Computer-Aided Drafting Certificate

Students enrolled in Cuyahoga's CAD certificate program receive training in both 3-D and 2-D computer drafting skills. Students must complete 32 credits to complete the program, and the school recommends a 2-semester plan to finish all of the required coursework. Some of the courses students take include CNC programming, engineering drawing, technology orientation, machine tools and geometric dimensioning.

Lakeland Community College

Students interested in learning CAD will find 3 relevant programs offered at Lakeland Community College. These include 2 certificate programs that feature between 3 and 5 courses focused on using drafting software in a professional capacity. Students interested in a degree program might consider an associate degree program in engineering technologies with a concentration in CAD.

AutoCAD Operator Certificate

Lakeland offers a specific program for students who would like to obtain foundational knowledge of CAD in a short amount of time. The AutoCAD operator certificate program can be completed with 3 courses. Students take basic and advanced AutoCAD classes to learn how to use the software. The program also features an introductory course in engineering technology.

CAD Design Certificate

This Lakeland program is more in-depth than the AutoCAD operator certificate and is focused on equipping aspiring designers with the technical tools they may need on the job. This program includes 5 courses in basic and advanced AutoCAD and SolidWorks software. Students also need to take an engineering technology class to round out the curriculum.

Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Technologies - Computer-Aided Design Concentration

Students enrolled in Lakeland's associate degree program learn how to generate manufacturing designs and drawings with computer software. Students need to complete 71 credits to earn the degree. Courses include basic and advanced study in both AutoCAD and SolidWorks software. Students also take classes in manufacturing processes and materials processing.

Stark State College

Stark State College offers students the opportunity to earn an associate degree in design engineering technology. This program is accredited by ABET's Technology Accreditation Commission and includes CAD as part of its curriculum.

Associate of Applied Science in Design Engineering Technology

This program requires students to complete 69 credits and includes an array of courses in engineering, drafting, physics and AutoCAD. Students learn how to create their own drafts and evaluate their designs for strength, the type of materials that should be used in construction and the specific dimensions needed to manufacture their creation. Specific courses included in the curriculum are calculus, machine design, basic AutoCAD, kinematics and working drawings.
