The BLS stated that CNAs and other nursing aides earned an average salary of $26,820 as of 2015. This figure equates to $12.89 per hour. The top ten percent of CNAs made a salary of $36,890 or more, while those in the bottom ten percent earned about $19,390 or less per year. Alaska, Nevada and New York were the top paying states for this profession in 2015, while New York, California, and Florida employed the most CNAs in the U.S.
After completing a state-approved training program, an aspiring CNA needs to take a competency exam in order to be placed on his or her state's registry.
