Columbus State Community College's Continuing Education Programs

Columbus State Community College offers continuing education programs, some of which are geared toward employment within a specific industry and others focusing on career enhancement. Several courses are designed specifically to prepare students for professional certification exams.

Integrated Systems Technology Program

This program provides hands-on training to individuals interested in industrial careers. Various certificates are available, including those in AC/DC electrical systems, fluid power systems, mechanical drive systems and process control. These studies combine online learning with hands-on experiences at the on-campus lab.

Custom Business Training Program

At the Center for Workforce Development at CSCC, students can further develop workplace skills for career enhancement or advancement. Programs are offered in leadership/supervision, project management, customer service and changing workforce. The project management course can be taken online.

Health Career Certification Programs

Through a partnership with ProTrain, CSCC provides several career training and certification prep courses for a variety of healthcare careers. Students can pursue programs in dental assisting, medical billing, medical coding, pharmacy technician, administrative medical assistant and electronic health records specialist, among others. These are online programs and typically take a year to complete.

Ohio Dominican University Adult & Continuing Education

ODU offers continuing education students the convenience of evening classes or online in seven areas of study: accounting, business, cross-disciplinary studies, insurance and risk management, project management, supply chain management, and teacher preparation.


The school has an online and evening associate's and bachelor's degree plan teaching the fundamentals for business success including marketing, management, accounting and finance.

Teacher Preparation (Adolescence to Young Adult)

Prerequisites for this licensure preparation program is a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, English, social studies or mathematics. The 1-year program is offered both online and at night and allows prospective teachers to move to the upper grades 7-12.

Cross-Disciplinary Studies

This ODU degree plan is for students with previous college experience or a degree without a career path. Students work with a counselor to create a student based curriculum specific to their interests and strengths.

Columbus City Schools Adult & Community Education

The Columbus City Schools Adult and Community Education has been providing the city with 50 years worth of adult education programing and lifelong learning. There are a variety of plans including health occupations, computer applications and skilled trades as well as GED prep and ESL.

Practical Nursing

The board approved Practical Nursing Program is nationally accredited and has been around for more than 60 years. The program takes one year to complete and prepares nursing students for their licensing exam as well as furthering their education to become an RN.

Truck Driver/CDL

This six-month program sets students up to become long haul drivers or handle local routes with classes sponsored by USL Career Academy. With a commercial driver's license, graduates can go to work for a major trucking company or work for themselves as independent drivers.


The Adult Basic and Literacy Education program has free evening and day GED preparation classes. This plan has options for sites all over the city. Students can also prepare with the internet-based PLATO and online prep classes. The program also stresses grammar and math refreshers, English as a Second Language, and college transitions.
