Colleges in Massachusetts offer associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in computer science and computer information systems. Undergraduate and graduate certificate programs are also available in these areas, as well as in specialties such as computer support, forensics and networking. Computer-focused minors are available at many schools as well.


Boston College

Situated in Chestnut Hill, Boston College offers computer science Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) programs. Students may study computation and computer systems. A minor program in computer science is also available.

Bridgewater State University

The Department of Computer Science at this Bridgewater university offers BS and Master of Science (MS) degree programs in computer science. The bachelor's degree program has courses like computer organization, data structures and programming languages. Master's degree students take courses in computer architecture, computer networks and operating systems. A minor in computer science is also available.

Bunker Hill Community College

Boston's Bunker Hill Community College has multiple associate degree options in the field of computer studies. Students at this college may earn an Associate in Arts (AA) in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science. The Associate in Science (AS) programs has majors in computer science (transfer program) and computer support. Certificates in computer support and computer forensics are also available. Students may study Java, data structures and object-oriented programming.

Harvard University

Harvard University in Cambridge offers a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science program. Students may pursue a dual bachelor's and master's degree program in computer science. The university also offers the following graduate programs in computer science: Master of Science, Master of Engineering and PhD. The Master of Engineering in Computer Science program is terminal and does not require a dissertation.

Middlesex Community College

Bedford's Middlesex Community College offers AS degrees in computer science and computer forensics. Forensics students study Linux, computer network security and criminal justice topics. The AS in Computer Science program is designed for transfer and provides courses like computer organization and programming. There is also an AS in Computer, Software and Networking Technology degree program. Courses include embedded computer systems and digital communications.

The computer forensics certificate program has 28 total credits, and students study programming, computer science and criminal law. A computer applications non-credit certificate program is also available, and students learn about Microsoft Office software.

Northeastern University

Boston-based Northeastern University has numerous degree options in its College of Computer and Information Science. The university offers computer science BA and BS programs, and students may study software development, computer organization and advanced algorithms. The BS program has a concentration in cyber operations, and undergraduate students may dual major in computer science and information science. Students may also pursue a dual BS/MS degree program in computer science. The master's degree program in computer science requires a thesis. Computer science PhD students must complete a comprehensive exam and a dissertation.

Salem State University

Salem State University features a BS program in its computer science department. Students may study computation theory, software engineering and computer systems. The university also has a minor program in computer studies.

University of Massachusetts - Amherst

The Amherst campus of this university offers a BS in Computer Science program. The program covers topics like artificial intelligence and operating systems. The university offers the following graduate programs: MS, PhD and a combined MS/PhD.

University of Massachusetts - Boston

This university in Boston offers computer science bachelor's, master's and PhD degree programs. BA program students take courses in computing, data structures and discrete mathematics. The BS in Computer Science program is accredited. Master's degree students study wireless networks, image processing and algorithm theory. MS students are also required to develop software for a capstone course. The PhD in Computer Science program requires students to complete a dissertation and a qualifying exam. University of Massachusetts - Lowell

PhD students will need to pass qualifying exams, complete a thesis and provide an oral defense.
