Hillsborough Community College

The programs offered through Hillsborough Community College's Computer Science Department can prepare students for a wide variety of careers in the information technology field. Students may earn college credit certificates, Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science degrees from the school.

College Credit Certificate in Network Security/Cyber-Security: Cisco

This program prepares students for a career in Cisco networking. It consists of 30 credit hours. Required courses include Cisco router technology and Cisco network fundamentals. There are also two other network security certificate programs for Windows and Unix/Linux.

College Credit Certificate in Network Server Administration

Students can earn networking and repair skills in the 24-credit-hour network server administration program. Required courses for the program include beginning server, advanced server, network security and upgrading hardware.

College Credit Certificate in Network Support Technician

Students may apply credits earned in this 18-credit program to the network systems technology degree. Some required courses for the program include computer upgrading, network security, computer repair and configuring active directory.

Erwin Technical Center

The networking program at Erwin Technical Center takes approximately ten months to complete. Students should have keyboarding skills and familiarity with the Windows operating system before they begin the program.

Computer Systems and Information Technology Program

After this 10-month program, students may pursue industry certifications in areas such as Network +, Cisco Certified Network Associate and A+ Computer Repair Certification. Students can also take advantage of the school's career advising services.

Pinellas Technical Education Center - Clearwater

Students can take advantage of articulation agreements for transfer to associate's degree programs upon completion of the program. The program consists of four courses.

Computer Systems and Information Technology Program

The program can prepare students for the Network+, Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) and A+ certifications. The program courses include a 300-hour computer systems technician, 150-hour computer network technician, 150-hour computer network specialist and 300-hour computer security technician classes.

Other School Options

Students may also pursue the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from University of Southern Florida, located eight miles away from downtown Tampa.
