Schools in New York offer a limited number of construction diploma programs, but students can learn relevant skills through certificate and associate's degree programs instead. In some cases, program credits may transfer to higher-level degree programs. Some certificate programs are comprised of about 4-6 courses and take about a year to complete. A 2-year associate's degree program consists of up to 68 credit hours and requires four semesters of study for full-time students.

CUNY Bernard M. Baruch College

This college is located in New York. Students can earn a certificate in real estate construction project management from the school's Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute. Required courses include construction project management, construction estimating and contract law. Students also have the opportunity to pursue a few restricted elective courses.

CUNY New York City College of Technology

This New York-based college features two construction training options. The Department of Construction Management & Civil Engineering Technology offers students an Associate in Applied Science in Construction Management and a Bachelor of Technology in Construction Technology. Course topics include interpreting specifications, estimating and construction plan reading. Students who have successfully completed the certificate program or degree program can transfer those credits into the Bachelor of Technology in Facilities Management: Construction Management program.

Dutchess Community College

Another school option is located in Poughkeepsie and features an Associate of Applied Science in Construction Technology program. The program consists of 65 credit hours and can be completed in 4 semesters by full-time students. Required courses include structural analysis, surveying, mechanics of structures and architectural drawing. Graduates should be able to pursue jobs as drafters, planning aides, construction aides, and manufacturing representatives.

Erie Community College

Buffalo is home to Erie Community College. The Associate in Applied Science in Construction Management Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET. After earning this degree, students may pursue a variety of careers, including construction management, building inspection or surveying. Students may also be able to transfer credits to a bachelor's degree program. The program includes hands-on experience, and students get to learn about blueprint reading, estimating and quality construction principles.

Hudson Valley Community College

Hudson Valley Community College is located in Troy. The Associate of Applied Science in Construction Technology: Building Technology program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. Students must satisfy mathematics entrance requirements before they are admitted into the program. Courses include engineering graphics, estimating, construction materials and building construction. The program consists of 67-68 credits and can be completed in 4 terms.

Long Island University - Brooklyn Campus

This school is located in Brooklyn. The School of Continuing Studies offers a certificate in building construction that consists of 4 courses. Students can expect to study design process, green construction and project management. The program is intended for students who are seeking small business skills along with entry-level construction training.

Monroe Community College

Students in Rochester can find an Associate of Applied Science in Construction Technology program within the Engineering Technologies Department at Monroe Community College. Required courses include surveying, computer applications for technicians, construction management and construction cost estimating. This program can give students skills in cost estimation and project scheduling and prepare them to coordinate construction projects.

Nassau Community College

This school is located in Garden City. The certificate in construction management can be completed in 1 year. Students must complete three prerequisite courses before beginning to work on the program curriculum. Required courses include construction management, construction safety, blueprint reading, and structural drawing.

New York University

New York is home to New York University. The Schack Institute of Real Estate within the university offers a diploma program in construction administration. Five courses are required, covering topics like construction methods, estimating, and materials. A graduate certificate in construction management is offered, in addition to a Master of Science in Construction Management.

Pace University - New York

This school is also located in New York, and it offers certificates in construction blueprint reading, cost estimating in building construction, construction project management, and Six Sigma construction project management. Each certificate consists of 1 respective course. Each course lasts 3-4 weeks, with class sessions held for 8 hours on Saturdays.
