Allegany College of Maryland

Allegany College of Maryland is located in Cumberland and offers a culinary arts associate degree through its Division of Hospitality and Culinary Arts. Courses in the program cover topics in cooking, food merchandising, purchasing, baking, cost control and food management. Students have an opportunity to gain hands-on experience through a college-owned restaurant. This school also has letter of recognition programs in baking essentials and cooking essentials for current food service professionals looking to enhance their food knowledge. The completed credits are transferred to the associate degree program.

Anne Arundel Community College

Situated in Arnold, Anne Arundel Community College features culinary certificate programs and an associate degree in the field. Certificate programs offered at the school include restaurant cooking skills, baking and pastry arts and culinary arts. The restaurant cooking skills certificate is 16 credits and includes coursework in baking and pastry, cooking techniques and sanitation. The 25-credit baking and pastry arts certificate program covers breads, cakes, European pastries and showpieces.

The culinary arts certificate is 25 credits and requires that students take courses in cooking techniques, sanitation, baking and pastry introduction, food science and nutritional cooking. The culinary arts option of the hotel and restaurant management associate degree program explores cooking, baking and pastry, nutrition, sanitation, operations management and restaurant management.

Chesapeake College

Chesapeake College is located in Wye Mills and offers a food service management certificate and food service management letter of recognition. To earn the letter of recognition, students are required to complete nine credits in food and beverage management, introduction to hospitality management and culinary fundamentals. Certificate students take courses in sanitation and safety, food preparation, culinary fundamentals and hospitality management. An internship is also part of the program.

Frederick Community College

Frederick, Maryland's Frederick Community College offers students the opportunity to earn a culinary certificate and a culinary arts and supervision associate degree. The culinary arts certificate program examines food preparation, baking, international cuisine and a la carte cooking. In addition to courses from the certificate program, associate degree students take courses in nutrition, management, cost control, food and beverage operations, catering and food purchasing.

Howard Community College

Howard Community College is located in Columbia and has a culinary management associate degree program that features tracks in baking and pastries, as well as professional cooking. Baking and pastries courses address nutrition, cake decorating, candy making, international breads and pastry showpieces. Professional cooking courses include culinary basics, culinary supervision, food preparation, safety and sanitation, nutrition and cost control.

Prince George's Community College

Based in Largo, Prince George's Community College offers certificate and associate degree programs in culinary arts through its Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts. Food production, baking skills, catering and food service operations are some of the classes in the certificate program. The Associate in Applied Science in Culinary Arts program requires courses in food service operations, food and beverage purchasing, manager training and cost control. Three cooperative education requirements are also included in the curriculum.
