Virginia Commonwealth University
Formed by a merger of the Medical College of Virginia and Richmond Professional Institute, Virginia Commonwealth University can trace its roots all the way back to 1838. Since the 1968 merger, the university has grown to become a research institution with $750 million of sponsored studies, including a grant from the National Science Foundation used to study privacy preservation in cloud computing security.
Master of Science in Computer and Information Systems Security
The program is offered jointly by the School of Business and School of Engineering. Graduates are trained to be technically proficient leaders within public and private organizations. Applications for the program must be received by July 1 for the fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester. The application must also be accompanied by GMAT or GRE scores.
This 30-credit program is divided into two key areas: core and elective. All students take the same six core courses, which cover cryptography, network operating system security and application security. Students then choose four elective courses, which can come from security courses within the program or, with the approval of the school, from the Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Information Systems or Forensic Science Departments.
