Moreno Valley College

Students interested in a career in health, human and public services can enroll in dental assisting, dental hygiene, medical assisting, emergency medical services and physician assistant programs at Moreno Valley College. Both the dental assistant certificate and associate's degree programs require applicants to submit proof of current CPR certification, as well as certain vaccinations. Moreno Valley College's dental assistant program is a full-time program that takes one year of study. Students must complete 32.5 units to earn the Certificate of Completion. The associate's degree program in dental assisting requires the same core courses as the dental certificate program, but students must also complete required general education coursework. Both the certificate and associate's degree programs include an internship at a local dental workplace, as well as the opportunity to practice their skills in a supervised environment at Loma Linda University.

Citrus College

Students at Citrus College can pursue Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees through educational and vocational programs. While some of these programs will prepare students for career opportunities, others are designed for transfer into bachelor's degree programs. Programs are available in nursing, dental assisting, social and behavioral science, psychology, biological science and photography. The Associate in Science in Dental Assisting program combines academic coursework with practical experience. Students are required to complete courses in dental assisting basics, dental materials, dental specialties, dental radiology, preventative dental health and infection control in the dental office. Students are also expected to complete a dental practical experience. Graduates of the program will be qualified to work as a member of a dental health team and be able to perform dental procedures and promote oral health. They'll also be prepared to take the California State Registered Dental Assistant Examination.
