Maryland Institute College of Art

The Maryland Institute College of Art offers 14 studio majors in areas that include architectural design, environmental design, illustration, drawing and painting. Students can also choose from one of the 19 graduate-level programs offered in studio art, social design and other liberal arts fields.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design

Courses in the graphic design program include sculptural forms, drawing, typography and advanced design. Students start their main courses during their sophomore year and have the opportunity to take advanced electives their senior year. During their last year of studies, students also attend a seminar and further develop their professional portfolio.

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Graphic Design

Those looking to advance in their career or apply to Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs may consider this post-baccalaureate certificate program. Before they are accepted to the program, applicants must submit a portfolio. The program teaches students about portfolio development, graphic design theory and basic design. Students can expect weekly critique session with the faculty.

Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design

The 2-year MFA program teaches students through studio courses, seminars and independent work. While earning their master's degrees, students learn about motion graphics and complete a design studio thesis. Students also have the chance to complete professional internships.

University of Baltimore

The University of Baltimore offers some classes online and on weekends as well. Students can earn degrees in a variety of areas related to design through the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences.

Bachelor of Arts in Digital Communication

Students in this program explore digital technologies and learn how they can apply digital media to business ventures. The program allows students to take day and night courses. Courses include media literacy, a survey of digital communication and communication technologies. Program specializations include culture and media design and production, public relations and digital theory.

Bachelor of Science in Simulation and Digital Entertainment

This program teaches students about computer programming, game concepts and usability design. Students have the chance to work with professionals through dual capstone seminars. Program requirements include Internet technologies, interactive design programming, designing for humans and 3-D graphics.

Master of Arts in Publication Design

Students can earn their master's degree online and through weekend study. Areas of study included in the program include professional writing, interactive design, public relations and corporate publications. Towson University

Bachelor of Fine Arts of Art and Design - Graphic Design

The graphic design undergraduate program is focused on typography, critical thinking, design technologies and traditional print design. Courses include visual concepts, the history of modern design and illustration principles. Students also design a portfolio.

Bachelor of Fine Arts of Art and Design - Digital Art and Design

Interactive Media Design Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Students can earn their post-baccalaureate certificate entirely online while receiving instruction in typography, interactive media and other related topics. Program graduates are prepared for careers in areas like website production, video media production and web development.
