Miami Schools with Design Degree Programs
Design courses can be found in such diverse subjects as fashion design, interior design and web design. In the Miami area, many schools offer degrees in design at the bachelor's or master's degree level. At the undergraduate level, many programs award a Bachelor of Fine Arts. - The University of Miami offers several areas of design specializations through its Bachelor of Fine Arts program. The university is situated approximately eight miles southwest of downtown Miami.
- Barry University's design program focuses on graphic design and awards a bachelor's degree. The campus for this university is found about eight miles north of Miami's downtown area.
- At Florida International University, which is located nearly 14 miles west of downtown Miami, students can earn a master's degree in interior design.

University of Miami
This 4-year school is located outside of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. It is a large school with a diverse population, both on campus and off campus.
Bachelor of Fine Arts
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Miami offers an array of specializations, including graphic design, photography, digital imaging, sculpture, printmaking, painting, multimedia and ceramics. Students must accrue 72 course hours of credit with a grade of C or better. They also must present a portfolio for approval by the faculty. Students must also participate in an exhibition, which is critiqued by the faculty and fellow students. Upon completing this degree program, students can pursue many different careers in design.
Barry University is a private school in the town of Miami Shores. It offers several types of fine arts degrees, including a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a graphic design specialization.
Bachelor of Fine Arts with a graphic arts specialization
This 60-credit degree program begins with a standard studio art and art history background. However, this modern, 21st-century specialization offers students the opportunity to enter fields in design such as publishing, marketing and advertising. Commercial design is taught as well as layout and production techniques, typography and corporate identification.
Florida International University
This Miami-based school offers a master's degree in interior design through its School of Architecture. FIU is a public university with over 40,000 students enrolled.
Master of Interior Design
Courses teach students the skills of design with a focus on the health, safety and well-being of the inhabitants of the space designed. Graduates of the course must apprentice themselves with a profession in the field for two years before they are eligible to take the certification exam.
