Several schools in Florida offer digital arts education programs. They are available at 2- and 4-year institutions as certificate, associate's, bachelor's or master's degree programs. Students learn through coursework well as hands-on experiences and internships, and they may attend classes on a full- or part-time basis. Some of these programs are presented online. Lively Technical Center
Located in Tallahassee, Lively Technical Center has a digital design certificate program that combines in-class and distance learning via the internet. The program consists of 600 hours of level one and 600 hours of level two digital design training. Students explore topics in graphic design, media design, information technology, production and digital assisting.
Mid Florida Tech
Orlando's Mid Florida Tech offers a digital design program as part of its career and technical training in arts and communication. The program consists of 1,200 hours of study in digital, graphic and media design, along with information technology and production studies related to the concentration. Students create a portfolio to display their digital design and layout skills.
Sheridan Technical Center
Sheridan Technical Center in Hollywood has a digital design program requiring 1,200 hours of studies. Students can complete the program in just over a year full-time or a little more than two years part-time. The coursework covers typography, page layout, illustration, multimedia, and other specialized skills, as well as software programs like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
Stetson University offers a B.A. degree in digital arts with tracks in art, computer science or sound through the campus in DeLand Florida. Within the digital arts department, students have access to three faculty members, as well as a digital arts lab. Within the program, topics of study include video and music, three-dimensional animation and image manipulation. A digital arts minor is also available, as well as hands-on project work and internship opportunities.
Technical Education Center - Osceola
The digital design program at the Technical Education Center - Osceola in Kissimmee offers both full- and part-time attendance options in the digital design certificate program. The program emphasizes the principles in design and technology and practical experience in layout and production. Within the 600-hour program, students gain enhanced practical experiences in computer-generated art, graphic design, electronic design, and illustration.
University of Central Florida
The digital arts certificate program is offered entirely online at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. Offered through the continuing education center, this 36-week program covers fundamental skills in topics like digital illustration and imaging. Drawing, color, form representation and vector illustration are other areas of focus. Students complete hands-on projects in digital and traditional media to enhance skills learned. Additionally, the School of Visual Arts and Design offers an MFA in Emerging Media program with a digital media track. This digital media program requires 45 credit hours in areas like visual language, story creation, and information architecture, along with nine elective credit hours and a 12-hour thesis requirement.
University of Florida
The University of Florida in Gainesville offers both a B.A. and M.A. degree in digital arts and sciences through the Digital Worlds Institute. In the bachelor's degree program, students choose a concentration from choices in media and storytelling, design and production or systems design. Depending on the program choice, students will develop skills in areas like digital production, animation, performance, game design, and communication.
University of Tampa
Students can pursue a BFA degree in digital arts at the University of Tampa in Tampa. This program uses both modern technology and traditional methods to develop skills like design, drawing, visualization, printmaking, and creativity. Hands-on training and professional internship opportunities are also an emphasis.
The multimedia design program at Westside Tech in Winter Garden takes just over one year to complete full-time. The 1,350 hours of studies cover video and audio editing, flash animation, graphic design, web design, and photography. This program is based on creating hands-on projects like commercials, magazines, posters, and web pages.
William T. McFatter Technical Center
William T. McFatter Technical Center in Davie has a multimedia design/digital printing technology program that consists of 1,350 hours of learning. Students learn hands-on skills in video-editing, presentation production, web design, and animation. Design principles, illustration, color theory and various industry software programs are also included. Students have access to Mac computers to complete projects that are presented and critiqued. Additionally, upon completion of the program, students are qualified for the Adobe Certified Associate for Adobe Photoshop.
