Inside Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the study of drugs, which includes how they work, how they break down in the body and how they interact with other drugs. Professionals in this field can work for research labs, colleges and universities, as well as government agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

On a day-to-day basis, pharmacologists engage in laboratory research using biochemistry and cell biology principles to develop and improve drugs. They may also work with doctors in administering drugs to patients participating in clinical trials, as well as monitoring patient reactions and analyzing trial results.
