Inside Graphic Communications

For the student who has artistic talent and good communication skills, a job as a graphic artist may be a satisfying career choice. Graphic communications professionals are generally given verbal instructions from a client about what message to communicate. They must then turn those instructions into a finished visual representation of the message. The visual messages might be displayed on packages, in commercials, on the Web or in print ads and logos.

Education Information

Training in graphic communications can last anywhere from 2-4 years or more, depending on the type of program. Several options are available, ranging from the associate's to the master's degree level. However, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), most employers require bachelor's degrees in graphic design or graphic communications for entry-level and advanced design positions.
