Inside Teaching

Teachers can be trained and licensed to operate at the preschool, elementary, middle or high school level. Teachers can also be licensed to teach a specific subject, such as history, geography, physics, math, English, health or art to multiple grade levels or in a particular level. Licensing requirements vary by state and are frequently updated and changed; however, standard requirements in public schools include completion of a bachelor's degree, teacher training and supervised classroom experience.

Some private schools may not require state licensure. Additionally, schools offering alternative teaching methods, such as Montessori or Waldorf Education, provide opportunities for teachers willing to take the additional courses and training needed to learn the established methodology.
