Mining Technologies

Mining technologies are used to facilitate resource recovery and improve safety in mines. Training in mining technology opens the way for positions as machine operators, mechanics and supervisors.

Inside Mining Technologies

Mining technologies refers to the drilling, excavation and safety equipment used in the operation of a surface or subsurface mine. The scale of surface mine earth-moving equipment is less constrained and, therefore, much larger than that used in subsurface mines. Since subsurface mining equipment is used in constrained, underground conditions, the equipment is more compact than surface mining equipment.

Education Information

Mining companies often hire employees to be trained in-house. However, certificate, associate's degree and bachelor's degree programs in mining technology are available, though the latter are rare. Programs in mining technology cover operations, maintenance and safety.
